The Community Development Department consists of the Building Official, Building Inspector, and Permit Technician. The department includes the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Zoning Board of Adjustments, and Building and Standards Commission that perform a variety of services intended to protect, maintain, and develop an attractive, safe, and healthy environment. Primary functions address property development and land use activities occurring in the city.
The department is also responsible for ensuring that all work conducted for new construction, rehabilitation, and demolition is carried out with the materials and methods that conform to approved site plans and the appropriate city codes. The department reviews plans and issues construction permits including building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, sewers, signs, and other permits required by City Codes.
