Crime Prevention

Crime prevention has been defined as “the anticipation, recognition and appraisal of a crime risk and the initiation of some action to remove or reduce it.” Crime prevention means using your instinct, commons sense and action to reduce a criminal’s opportunity. The Hutchins Police department provides proactive crime prevention programs and safety services to assist in reducing risks of becoming a victim of crime.

Crime prevention is recognizing that a crime risk exists and taking some corrective action to eliminate or reduce that risk. Crime prevention means risk reduction. A close working relationship among the crime prevention unit, management, patrol and investigations units, and the community is essential to eliminating crime risk. Reporting suspicious persons and/or activities, locking your vehicles, securing your homes doors and windows, installing an alarm system, are all proactive ways to protect personal property.
